Drug Dose Information

Adult: PO Paget's disease of bone Initial: 5 mg/kg/day up to 6 mth. 

Severe: Up to 10 mg/kg/day for not >3 mth. Max: 20 mg/kg/day. 

Ectopic ossification complicating hip replacement 20 mg/kg/day for 1 mth before and 3 mth after operation.

For ectopic ossification due to spinal cord injury: 20 mg/kg/day for 2 wk, then 10 mg/kg/day for 10 wk. 

Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women Given in a cyclical regimen: 400 mg/day for 14 days, then 500 mg/day of elemental Ca for 76 days. May continue for up to 3 yr. IV 
•	Hypercalcaemia of malignancy 7.5 mg/kg/day for 3 consecutive days, up to 7 days if needed. Ensure at least 7-day interval between courses.
•	Maintenance: 20 mg/kg/day via oral administration for 30-90 days.

How To Take

People with low blood calcium level Esophagus problem

Interactions

Calcium, iron and antacids reduce absorption. May increase prothrombin time when used with warfarin. May increase GI and/or renal side effects when used with NSAIDs.
