Atherosclerosis : Atherosclerosis is a specific form of arteriosclerosis in which an artery wall thickens as a result of the accumulation of calcium and fatty materials such as cholesterol and triglyceride. It reduces the elasticity of the artery walls and therefore allows less blood around the body, posing serious cardiovascular complications. Atherosclerosis is the usual cause of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease -- what together are called "cardiovascular disease." A range of medications which can be used to treat Atherosclerosis are Anticoagulants, Aspirin,Atenolol, celiprolol, nadolol, Oxprenolol, pindolol, acebutolol , sotalol, calcium channel blockers, Ezetimibe, Fibrates, Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Receptor Inhibitors, Niacin (Nicotinic Acid), Nitrates, Platelet Inhibitors, Statins
Concurrent use with ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium salts, and drugs that may increase serum potassium (e.g. ciclosporin, eplerenone) may increase the risk of hyperkalaemia. Concomitant use with NSAIDs may decrease glomerular filtration synergistically; acute renal failure may occur. Increased serum concentrations of lithium and toxicity when used with angiotensin receptor antagonist have been reported; avoid concomitant use of lithium and Olmesartan.
