Side Effects

Most common- Low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, slow heart rate, fever, chills, pain, postoperative complications, stuffy nose, reduced sensation, anemia, tingling, headache, itching and back pain. 

CNS Change in speaking ability, numbness, mental/mood changes and dizziness. 

Heart- Chest Pain and irregular heart beat. 

Skin - Itching. 

Eye- Blurred vision. 

Gastrointestinal- Nausea and vomiting. 

Genitourinary- Absence of urination and urine retention

Drug Dose Information

Surgical anaesthesia

Lumbar epidural, 15–20 mL of 10 mg/mL solution or 15–25 mL of 7.5 mg/mL solution; caesarean section, 15–20 mL of 7.5 mg/mL solution in incremental doses .
thoracic epidural ,5–15 mL of 7.5 mg/mL solution

major nerve block (brachial plexus block), 30–40 mL of 7.5 mg/mL solution

field block, up to 30 mL of 7.5 mg/mL solution


Acute pain

Lumbar epidural, 10–20 mL of 2 mg/mL solution followed by 10–15 mL of 2 mg/mL solution at intervals of at least 30 minutes or 6–10 mL/hour of 2 mg/mL solution as a continuous epidural infusion for labour pain or 6–14 mL/hour of 2 mg/mL solution as a continuous epidural infusion for postoperative pain
thoracic epidural, 6–14 mL/hour of 2 mg/mL solution as a continuous infusion
Peripheral nerve block, 5–10 mL/hour of 2 mg/mL solution as a continuous infusion or by intermittent injection

How To Take

It available as a solution for injection, administered by a healthcare provider in the epidural space of the spine or around peripheral nerves.

Storage

Store it at room temperature (20-25° C) and keep away from light.

Itraconazole, ketoconazole or clarithromycin may reduce clearance of ropivacaine. Increased metabolism when used with rifampicin. Clearance is inhibited when used with fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin. Increased risk of toxicity when used with other local anaesthetics.
