Side Effects

Most Common- Drowsiness, loss of appetite, dizziness, unsteadiness, agitation/irritability, memory loss and poor concentration. 

Body as a Whole- Headache, abdominal pain and flu syndrome. 

Gastrointestinal - Nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, constipation and dry mouth. 

Blood - Bruising. 

Metabolic- Weight loss. 

Central Nervous System - Night blindness, tingling, confusion, poor concentration, memory loss, agitation/irritability, depression, sleeplessness, anxiety, nervousness, drowsiness, fatigue, tiredness, speech abnormalities and difficulties in verbal expression. 

Respiratory - Nose inflammation. 

Skin- Rash, itching, pimple, hair loss, increased sweating, dry skin, hives, abnormal hair growth over the body surface. 

Eye and ENT - Double vision and taste perversion.

Drug Dose Information

Adult: PO Initial: 50 mg/day in 2 divided doses, up to 100 mg/day after 1 week. Thereafter, may further dose increase at weekly intervals in steps of up to 100 mg. Usual dose: 300-500 mg/day.

How To Take

It is available as a tablet and capsule taken orally, with or without food.

Storage

Oral: Store it at room temperature (below 30°C).

Interactions

Small decrease in zonisamide levels with phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine. Zonisamide has variable effects on carbamazepine levels. Increased zonisamide levels with lamotrigine.
